LOCAL ARES

The Brampton/Caledon ARES group has formal agreements to provide communications, as requested during emergencies, with several primary response agencies. These include:

The City of Brampton

The Region of Peel

The Town of Caledon

Peel Region Red Cross (primary communications provider)

Brampton/Caledon ARES is written into the EMERGENCY PLAN of each of these organizations and participates in regular exercises that they perform. We also keep in touch with them on a regular basis and attend their planning meetings whenever possible.

In addition, Brampton/Caledon ARES has informal agreements with other agencies to also provide communications when requested.

St. John Ambulance
Brampton Safe City
Sheridan Institute of Technology – Brampton Campus

As a further service to any of these agencies, Brampton/Caledon ARES has in the past, and continues, to make communications expertise available for planning purposes.

LOCAL RESPONSE ACTIVITIES

The Brampton/Caledon ARES group has been in existence for many years and over that time has responded to requests from the authorities to supply communications. Some examples are:

The Mississauga Train Derailment
The Eastern Canada Ice Storm
The Southern Ontario Power Blackout
The Y2K Electrical Time Shift Test
The Clarke Boulevard Townhouse Fire

COMMUNITY EVENTS

Fortunately, real emergencies do not happen very often. Therefore as a means of securing continual readiness of the ARES members, Brampton/Caledon ARES provides communications support for many community events. This allows operators to hone their radio skills.

Events we support include:

MS Walkathon
CIBC Run For The Cure
Terra Cotta Bike Races
The Halloween Goblin Patrol
Brampton Half Marathon
